The volcanic island of St Vincent rises up out of the emerald Caribbean Sea and a chain of exquisite islands drop for 50 miles southwards, stretching as far south as Grenada. The Grenadines are undeveloped and unspoilt. Nightlife is conspicuous by its absence, peace and solitude are unsurpassed, and the dress code - like the lifestyle - ranges from informal to barefoot casual.
Start your yacht charter at True Blue Bay Marina in Grenada, where the trade winds are perfumed by tropical spices and the easy-going islanders make you welcome. Cruise north into the Grenadines, visiting Carriacou, Union and the fabulous Tobago Cays, a stunning anchorage protected by the horseshoe reef. The Grenadines are far enough off the beaten tourist track to let you explore the authentic Caribbean. Linger a couple of nights at Tobago Cays, a stunning anchorage protected by the horseshoe reef. Union is full of local life and colour, while the smaller islands are just the way you imagine - untouched, uncrowded, with perfect white sandy beaches. Passages are more exposed than in the BVI, but islands are no more than three hours sail apart. One-way charters between Grenada and St Vincent can be arranged at extra cost.

From the base at Blue Lagoon on the south side of St Vincent, sail south to the Grenadines, just a couple of hours' sail to the jet-set island of Mustique. Be sure to have a drink in Basil's Bar. Port Elizabeth on Bequia boasts excellent waterfront bars and restaurants and the West Indian gingerbread architecture makes this a picturesque spot. Canouan is known as the "island of turtles" - a great place to chill out on deserted white sandy beaches or explore this former whaling port. The Tobago Cays are within easy reach on a one-week itinerary. One-way yacht charter between St Vincent and Union can be arranged at extra cost.
